A proposal for 37 residential apartments, 40 serviced apartments, food and drink premises, a swimming pool and 130 car parking spaces has been lodged on land adjacent to Moona Moona Creek.
Many residents have expressed concern about:
- The scale and density of the proposal
- The cumulative impact of a third large-scale development on Moona Moona Creek
- The clearing of the majority of trees across the site and along the street frontages
- Impacts on habitat, local wildlife and the Moona Moona Creek waterway
- The increase in local traffic and parking pressures
- The suitability of this sensitive site for such intensive development
- Flooding, coastal inundation and bushfire risk considerations
- A new road for Moona Street & new private entrance road between Murdoch and Burrill Streets
- The precedent this proposal could set for the future character of Huskisson.
The site is located approximately 100 metres from Moona Moona Creek Reserve and immediately adjacent to sensitive coastal and estuarine environments.
An approved development application at nearby 4 Murdoch Street proposes a further 32 apartments, prompting some residents to question the cumulative impacts of development in this part of Huskisson.
We have requested that Council consider extending the exhibition period to allow additional time for community review. We are also seeking independent advice regarding landscaping, environmental impacts and aspects of the building design.
This is not about opposing all development
People will have different views on this proposal, and we encourage everyone to review the plans and supporting documents for themselves.
For many residents, the key question is whether a development of this scale is appropriate in an area adjoining Moona Moona Creek and surrounding natural environments.
